Program and services
FAMIS is the name of the Children's Health Insurance Program in Virginia. Most of the health services offered to children through the FAMIS program are provided through managed care organizations (MCOs). An MCO is a health plan with a group of doctors and other providers working together to provide health services to FAMIS enrollees.
Kaiser Permanente is an MCO that is part of the Virginia's FAMIS program. Parents of eligible FAMIS enrollees can choose Kaiser Permanente as the MCO where they want their child to receive health services.
The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services decides who can enroll in an MCO like Kaiser Permanente. They will let us know who is eligible and if there are any changes in the eligibility of FAMIS enrollees.
